Disability Support Services
It is the policy and practice of J. F. Drake State Community and Technical College to ensure public accommodations and services, equal enjoyment of goods, facilities, privileges, and advantages to all individuals with disabilities.
If you are a student or potential student with a disability who will require academic accommodations, Please visit the College Counselor prior to or the start of your first semester at J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College. The types of academic accommodation provided by the college will be discussed in detail with you at that time. Information is handled with your confidentiality in mind.
Accommodations may be provided for the following, but are not limited to:
- Hearing disabilities
- Mobility impairment
- Learning disabilities
- Closed head injury
- Psychological disability
- Health disabilities
The type of accommodations provided varies with each individual situation. The Counselor will work closely with you to assist you to develop accommodations to meet your specific needs. You must be able to provide recent written documentation from a clinical professional familiar with the nature and extent of your disability, including recommendations for accommodations. This will help the counselor to determine those accommodations that will be most beneficial to you in an academic environment.

To request accommodations through Disability Support Services, contact Counseling Services via phone (256-551-1710) or visit the office (BUILDING 700 ROOM 706 MAIN CAMPUS). Usual operating hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday- Thursday and 7:30 am to 11:30 am on Fridays when the College is open. Counseling Services strives to assist students as quickly as possible, so appointments are highly suggested.
